Profile: Anina Ghosal '27

Major/minor: Economics and HSSP majors, Math minor
Study abroad program: Brandeis in Copenhagen: Business and Economics in Denmark, Summer 2025
Reason you chose this program: I wanted to get a taste of study abroad through the summer and also wanted to get ahead on my Economics major. I also had been wanting to go to Copenhagen and heard a lot of good things about this program.Favorite classes: My favorite class in Copenhagen was Behavioral Economics. I really enjoyed how involved it was in regards to running experiments and getting involved with the local community.
How did you incorporate your Brandeis areas of study into your study abroad experience? My entire program was focused on my major, Economics, and it was interesting to explore the field through a different lens. It was very eye opening to be able to get a Danish/ European perspective on the same topics and concepts I had been learning about at Brandeis.
Housing situation: I lived in an apartment with another roommate which included a kitchen, two bedrooms, and a bathroom. The apartment building also had a common space where all other Brandeis students could hang out.
What was your greatest challenge? My greatest challenge abroad was settling into a routine and ensuring I was doing what was best for me within the chaos of studying abroad.
Favorite memory: My favorite memory in Copenhagen was attending a community dinner. This dinner was essentially a weekly event where anyone from the city could show up to eat a communal dinner with others. It was a lot of fun being able to meet new people from all around the city while eating good food.
What do you know now that you didn't know before? The concept of "hygge" in Denmark is the idea of coziness and warmth that Danish people embrace during the winter months to combat the cold and short days. I wasn't aware that this was such a tangible part of life, and I enjoyed learning about it.
Fact about Denmark that you think people would be surprised to learn: LEGO is headquartered in Denmark, and there are more pigs than people!
